If you’ve been along Military and Seaview Roads on a Saturday morning, there’s a good chance you’ve seen one or more of our subgroups of yellow-kitted Cobwebs riders.
Whilst we’ll have between 40 and 70 riders in total each ride, we use a subgroup system to split our ride into six smaller and more homogeneous speed-based subgroups – of generally 8 to 14 riders.
This means that we have a speed-based subgroup which will accommodate most riders – from slower to faster, and from new to riding to experienced.
Each subgroup has a designated ride leader who monitors the group’s riding, including how each rider is faring, and makes decisions and calls as considered appropriate.
At the end of the ride, each subgroup meets for coffee and some lively conversation at it’s particular table at the Watermark Hotel, which is directly adjacent to our starting point at Glenelg.
If you’re looking for a structured and supportive group ride with riders of similar abilities, and with some enjoyable social interaction after the ride, then come down and join us!
Cobwebs has been riding for 23 continuous years.
We ride every Saturday for a 53 kilometre trip from Glenelg to Outer Harbor and return.
Some of our riders do a shortened ride of 30 km, though still starting at the same time at Glenelg.
Joining these riders works well for new riders who aren’t confident that they can do the full distance.
Our rides have approximately 20% female riders – and our Facebook page has 35% female riders.
We particularly value safe and courteous riding.
New riders are initially assigned to the subgroup that seems appropriate to their skills, experience and speed and introduced to an experienced rider, who will assist with integration into the group and familiarisation with the ride.
Each subgroup meets for coffee at the Watermark after the ride, which allows a very quick and effective integration into the group for new riders.
We start at 7.55 AM each Saturday from the Wigley Reserve carpark at Glenelg.
If you’d like to join us, just arrive before 7.55 AM on a Saturday and introduce yourself to any rider and they’ll put you in contact with an appropriate group leader.
Should you have any queries, or if you wish to give us some notice that you’ll be joining us, you can contact us at cobwebskit@yahoo.com.au
