Further Improvements Coming to North-South Bikeway Following Community Feedback

The City of Adelaide has announced a series of upgrades to the recently completed North-South Bikeway along Frome Street and Frome Road, following a review of the bikeway’s operation and community feedback.

While the 1km stretch between Rundle Street and Albert Bridge has been widely welcomed by the cycling community, several operational concerns were raised, including motorists frequently obstructing the bike lane, delays associated with Lot Fourteen’s car park access, and interactions between cyclists and drivers near driveways.

To address these issues and further improve safety and usability, the City is now undertaking a package of infrastructure enhancements. These include:

• Replacing flexible bollards with concrete median islands and clearer signage
• Improving traffic signal phasing at key intersections
• Upgrading line markings, including introducing more green conflict zones
• Additional minor works to support functionality and safety

Construction on the new upgrades began earlier in June 2025 and is expected to take 3 to 4 weeks to complete.
